Luke 19:41–44 (NIV): As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

As Jesus looked at Jerusalem he reflected on its people. His heart was heavy. These people whom he loved and came to restore had rejected him. Rejected God.   He wasn’t angry. He was devastated.

They did not recognise that their God the one true God had stepped down to be with them.

In the previous post we read some of the people recognised Jesus so they shouted praise as he rode in on the donkey and others still didn’t even after everything they saw.

Today I pray that we will recognise Jesus. As we read, pray, talk, listen, look. We will recognise his voice, the creativity of his work, the answered prayers, I pray that we will be discerning.
